Plants that can take the heat and make the grade, with plant guru Dr. Allan Armitage

Dr. Allan Armitage has been working at the University of Georgia Athens to test and introduce new plants for our gardens and patios. Each new plant is evaluated for foliage, flowers, sun tolerance, heat resistance, and ease of care. Once these incredible plants have made the grade, they receive the Athens Select label. Available at your local garden center, you can learn more about Athens Select plants by visiting their website, www.AthensSelect.com .
You can also visit the Athens Select test garden at the University of Georgia Athens. Open daily on the university campus, please refer to the Athens Select website for directions.
Dr. Allan Armitage is a leading expert on perennial plants and evaluates thousands of new introductions at the University of Georgia Athens. We were lucky enough to follow him around the garden and hear the stories behind each plant he grows.

To learn more about perennials, check out some of Armitage's books available from Timber Press, www.TimberPress.com.
