The Victorian Crown Jewel of Golden Gate Park: The Conservatory of Flowers

The Conservatory of Flowers has been one of the most loved and visited landmarks of San Francisco since it opened in 1879. Following a disastrous wind storm in 1995, the Conservatory underwent a massive restoration of the structure and the plant collections within. Again open to the public, the Conservatory delights and educates visitors with 5 galleries of plants and displays including Lowland Tropics, Highland Tropics, Aquatic Plants, Potted Plants and temporary exhibits.

The Conservatory of Flowers is open Tuesday through Sunday and on major holidays.

Helping neighborhoods and the environment one tree at a time: Friends of the Urban Forest

Urban trees do more than just make streets look pretty, they help reduce storm rain runoff, urban heat island effect, noise pollution, air pollution and provide food for birds and butterflies. Friends of the Urban Forest helps bring together groups of neighbors to plant trees on city streets. Their unique approach encourages full public participation from planting to tree care and responsibility. They encourage bio-diversity on streets by planting a wide mixture of trees well suited for the micro-climate of each district.
