Exotic and Adaptable Palms for Every Garden
Palms will lend a touch of the tropics to any garden from towering Chilean Wine Palms lining a drive to a Pygmy
Date Palm in a container on your patio or in your home. Gary Gragg along with Tom Fowler and the dedicated staff
of Golden Gate Palms and Exotics travel the world looking for new palms to bring to their nursery in Point Richmond, CA.
With the largest collection of palms in Northern California, Gary strives to test the hardiness and adaptability
of palms to colder climates. Some palms, including the native Sabal or Palmetto are hardy to 10F or less.
Palms seen today include: Sabal minor, Sabal louisianna, Chaemedorea tepijelote, Brahea armata, Chamaerops humilis
var. cerifera, Rhopalostylis nikau, Rhopalostylis baurii VAR cheesemanii, Trachycarpus wagneriensis, Phoenix
roebellenii and Jubea chiloensis.

The Nation's Garden: United States National Arboretum, Washington, DC
Created by an act of Congress in 1927, The United States National Arboretum is a hidden jewel of forest, meadows,
gardens and impressive sights on 445 acres within the heart of our bustling Capital City. Gardens that Dave visited
today with Dr. Thomas Elias, USNA Director, included the Introduction Garden, which showcases new and noteworthy
plants from the USNA Plant Introduction Program. Other impressive collections and gardens include the Azalea
Hill, National Bonsai and Penjing Museum, National Herb Garden, Asian Collection and Gottelli Dwarf and Slow
Growing Conifer Collection. Dominating the garden are the spectacular Capitol Columns, one of the most photogenic
sights in Washington.
The USNA is open every day of the year except December 25th from 8am to 5pm, Admission is free.
