Rocky Mountain High, Travel to Vail for a unique alpine garden; The Betty Ford Alpine Garden.
Former First Lady Betty Ford loves the Vail Valley and the Rocky Mountains that surround it. She lent her name to this unique alpine garden which has become not only the highest elevation public garden in the world but also internationally recognized center for research, preservation and education on high elevation wildflowers.
The garden consists of various botanical zones organized by elevation and slope aspect with a gushing mountain creek cascading from one level to the next under massive timber bridges.
The gardens also highlight hardy perennials, shrubs, and trees suited to high altitude gardens and cold winter areas.
Betty Ford Alpine Garden is open daily from snowmelt to snowfall each year and is situated just beyond Vail Village within Ford Park.

Colorful Drought Tolerant Perennials in beautiful Santa Fe; High Country Gardens mail-order nursery.
David Salman showed us around the demonstration garden for his retail nursery and mail order catalog, High Country Gardens, in historic Santa Fe, New Mexico. A life long resident of Santa Fe, David chose drought tolerant hardy perennials that provide masses of color for intermountain, plains, and west coast gardeners. Among the plants seen today were Callirhoe, Penstemon, Lavandula, and Agastache.
Many previous Dave’s Favs are also sourced from High Country Gardens, which has earned one of the highest ratings by customers at Garden Watchdog
