A tropical oasis in busy Miami: Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden
Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is elegantly landscaped horticultural gem tucked into a shady residential neighborhood just south of the skyscrapers of downtown Miami. The mission of the garden, founded by Col. R. H. Montgomery, was to conserve tropical plants within the garden and in their native habitats through exploration and education. Continuing the work started by Dr. David Fairchild, the garden today holds a vast collection of rare palms, tropical fruits, and flowering plants from rainforests to sea islands.
Fairchild is open daily from 9:30am to 4:30pm except Dec. 25th

Art meets Flowers, inspiration with world famous glass artist, Dale Chihuly
Dave was excited to get a once-in-a-life-time visit to meet with Dale Chihuly. The Chihuly studio is not open to the public, but you can see information, videos and photos of selected works, exhibitions and artist biography at the Chihuly website. Many of the sculptures seen today were filmed at the FairChild Tropical Garden during the 2007 exhbit of the artist’s work there.
