Dave Egbert explores the world of Exotic Bromeliads; then he travels to Ojai to get a bit of Australia for his own garden.

Exploring the world of Exotic Bromeliads; a little bit of Australia for your own garden: Australian Native Plants Nursery in Ojai; Dave’s Favs: Nandina, Euonymus, Tibuchina

Exotic Bromeliads for your home.

Bromeliads are exotic, long-lasting, and colorful plants for your home, greenhouse, or summer patio pots.  Jeffrey Kent goes out into the wild rainforests to discover, document, and collect new species to bring back and grow to further enhance the rich selection of flower and leaf colors that bromeliads offer to the home gardener.  At his family nursery, Kent’s Bromeliads of Vista, CA., Jeffrey showed off his latest hybrids and favorite types.

For photos of popular hybrids and ideas about growing and using Bromeliads, please visit their website:

Acorn Woodpeckers
Acorn woodpeckers are threatened by development that destroys their special oak woodland habitat.
The woodpecker seen on today's program was filmed at Quail Botanical Garden in Encinitas, CA.  Dead tree trunks are left standing in the garden to provide homes and larder space for these birds that have been forced out of surrounding areas by development.
