Daffodils/ Edible Gardens

Dave travels to Virginia to enjoy fields of organically grown Daffodils with Becky Heath, then explores edible green alternatives to the typical front lawn at Descanso Gardens; Dave’s Favs: Hibiscus, Coreopsis

In the Know on Narcissus: enjoying Daffodils with Becky Heath

Brent and Becky Heath carry on the tradition of growing quality flowering bulbs for gardeners nation-wide begun by their family in 1900 at Brent and Becky’s Bulbs, in Gloucester, VA.  Their farm is open in spring for tours on special days but you can stop by the nearby Bulb Shoppe to enjoy vibrant displays of seasonal bulbs plus pick out flowering bulbs in season of the highest quality.  On their farm, Brent and Becky carefully breed and evaluate hundreds of daffodils, selecting only the best to offer via mail order and online.

Exploring Edible Alternatives to the typical front lawn at Descanso Gardens

Artist Fritz Haeg created a thought provoking display garden at Descanso Gardens, near Los Angeles, entitled Edible Estates. The garden pits the water hungry front lawn against a lush landscape of fruits, vegetables and herbs, showing just what that wasted lawn space could become. Along with companion book, Edible Estates, Attack on the Front Lawn, Haeg encourages visitors to explore the garden and their own front lawn.
Descanso Gardens is the premier garden destination in Southern California with acres of roses, camellias, and garden trails under a canopy of ancient oaks.  The garden is open daily from 9am to 4:30pm.
