How to make gardening fun for everyone: The Buehler Enabling Garden at Chicago Botanic Garden.

Jean Rothert showed Dave all of the innovative ideas for making gardening fun and easy for everyone, regardless of physical limitations. The Enabling Garden highlights interesting ideas that can be adapted to any garden, from space saving ideas like vertical wall gardens and hanging baskets, to making flowerbeds accessible to those with limited mobility.  The garden engages all the senses with colorful flowers and bold foliage, fragrance, and splashing water.
The Buehler Enabling Garden is staffed by docents daily to demonstrate specially adapted tools and answer questions.

Going “Green” to protect native butterflies on your own backyard: A visit to Butterflies Alive! at The Living Desert.

Butterflies are living color in our gardens.  You can come up close and personal with dozens of native North American butterfly species in a unique walk-through garden exhibit at The Living Desert.  A lush garden of flowers blooms along winding paths with the burbling of fountains while butterflies flutter freely within the enclosure.  The exhibit highlights the needs to conserve and promote butterflies and provides insight into creating a pesticide free, organic habitat garden in your own backyard.  Butterflies Alive! is open seasonally from October to April.  The Living Desert is open all year with unique gardens and exhibits focused on understanding and conserving the desert ecosystems of the world.
